College Students: Three Secrets to Healthy Eating During Finals

Spring semester finals are approaching soon. Last semester I didn't gain any studying tips but I sure did gain a couple of pounds from overeating. My method to release stress was to eat nonstop. I studied in the library for hours and then rewarded myself with a fatty dinner. Luckily, I told myself enough is enough and quickly ended what would have been freshman fifty. If you don't mind the fat camping out on your hips all year long, please disregard this article. If you are ready to make a life changing difference, please read on.

1. Always eat breakfast. I was nagged by my parents on how important it is to eat breakfast but I chose sleep over breakfast. It just never hit me that I can have both. You are probably rolling your eyes like, "Blah blah blah, I can just eat brunch." Brunch was invented by an English writer who was looking for a way to fix his hangover. It is also a business strategy used by your college to cut budget. I am not suggesting you eat sausage and pancakes every day. Breakfast can be something simple like a cup of yogurt, a piece of fruit, a glass of milk. You already lack sleep from studying late. Your stomach needs food in order for your brain to function. See how it all connects. Meet breakfast, your new best friend!

2. Try to eat consistently. You are probably an expert in creating your class schedule. Why not create your eating schedule? It is important to eat consistently throughout the day because like your laptop, you also run low on battery and need to be recharged. Ha! Nice try coffee! Food is your battery, not caffeine. Energy drinks and coffee are full of sugar. It only lets you concentrate for a limited period of time and then you crash. "Hmmm, Biochemistry final tomorrow 8:30 am, can I afford to crash during the three hour exam?" Make smart choices.

3. Make your own dinner. This sounds impossible especially during finals weeks but who said you need to spend three hours to fix a meal? Cooking a quick dinner is the perfect excuse to step away from studying. Spending less than an hour on cooking is not going to drop your grade from an A to a B. You are probably more productive cooking a healthy hearty meal then shopping for shoes online just to avoid studying. Cheers to healthy eating during finals!
